About Kristy Batie

Kristy Batie I have loved horses all my life. I asked people all the time to ride their horses. I rode my neighbors horses growing up. This lead to showing their Arabian Horses. My dad gave me my first camera when I was in High School. I took as many images of horses that I could, which wasn't as many as I would have liked as film and processing was expensive. In High School I took photo classes and learned how to shoot and process black and white film. I joined the school newspaper and photographed sports for it.

For years after High School I didn't photograph much except for the usual family pictures.
It wasn't until I started working for a horse trainer that I picked photography back up. I purchased a point and shoot camera. Which is not the easiest to capture horses. This lead to a DSLR which provided better images than the point and shoot.

From there my friends persuaded me to enter a local photo contest for the Washington Thoroughbred and although didn't win the contest I was however offered the cover of the Magazine. I was hooked!! I joined the Equine Photographers Network. I took classes on how to photograph horses correctly. I talked with many other photographers on how to improve my images. I studied books, watched videos, studied images to keep improving my photography. I pestered my friends with horses to photograph them all the time. I was at the track as much as possible taking photos of morning workouts and afternoon races. I submitted many images to the magazine. Over the years my hard work and persistence paid off and many more images of racing were accepted and more covers came.

This inspired me to follow my dreams and I was finally able to take Photo Workshops with one of my Idols Tony Stromberg. My first workshop led me to Wyoming and then France and Portugal. I have met many amazing photographers through these workshops and have made many wonderful friends.
Through these new friends I have had the opportunities to photograph many amazing beautiful horses.

I have the desire to keep learning so along with photography I have also begun the journey of Digital Photo Compositing and Digital Painting. These keep my creative juices flowing and leaning more every day.

Photography is a journey and I am constantly learning from everyone I meet and every video I watch.

Take Care,
Kristy
